When you’re working with a lot of small files on a windows computer that has a network connection to a samba share, the performance can be awful! There is a quick fix for this problem, applying this will improve the performance of working with the share.
Open up /etc/samba/smb.conf
Add the following to the ‘[global]’ part of the config:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=17520 SO_SNDBUF=17520 IPTOS_LOWDELAY
Add the following to the ‘[share]’:
delete readonly = yes oplocks = yes
restart samba and reconnect to your network share on your windows computer, et voila!
